We woke up and left around 630am to go to the crater. We started driving up into the mountains and it got extremely foggy! Yes, just my luck to go to one of the best places ever and you can't see anything because of the fog. I tried to keep a good attitude tellin
g myself it would burn off as the sun came out, but as we got closer and closer the fog didn't go away and I started to get a little annoyed! We were dri
ving around the rim of the crater (at the time I didn't know this because I couldn't see anything) in complete blinding fog, and then we started to descend off into the crater. Inside the crater was perfectly clear, which was awesome! You could look up to the top of the crater and see extremely dense fog and then down off into the crater was clear as day. The crater itself was spectacular!
We got to see a lot of animal/wild life. At one point, we saw a small pack of l
ions, one of which was hunting. We sat and waited for a little while, and we watched as a small wildebeest like animal approached the lion. Suddenly, the lion attacked and the chase was on. The wildebeest won though, speeding off across the grassy plain. Some little part inside of me had hoped the lion would have won!
Shortly after eating a late lunch we had to leave the crater. The Sweds were heading somewhere else which was a good distance away and we were heading back to the hostel to grab our gear and head back to
Arusha. We arrived back at the hostel, to find the 70 model station wagon, self proclaimed the bat-mobile (from the stickers on the back glass), waiting for us to take us back into Arusha.
