Another Long Day of Travels...

So the past few days we have been hanging out at Meredith's house. It is in a pretty remote area. It is nice though, very welcoming. It has been interesting living the lifestyle that is has gotten used to since moving to this site. You take for granted some of the smallest chores when in places like this, such as cooking. Cooking back home takes no thought, if you don't have certain ingredients you can pick them up on the way home from work or school. Here, you have no such luxury. Here you plan your meals way in advance. Then when it comes to cooking them, it takes forever. Imagine only having one burner on your stove that works, how cooking would change dramatically. Well, now imagine cooking everything over an open charcoal stove. It just takes longer in general to cook here. But when you do actually cook a good meal it is definitely appreciated!

This morning we woke up at around 545am to meet our taxi driver, Olna. We had arranged for him to come pick us up and take us back into Mafinga. We also got him to help us at the bus station, since at this point Justin and I were splitting from Meredith (who had to go back to work teaching). Once at the bus station, we found a bus service that would take us directly to Arusha. We left around 9am from Mafinga, and had one stop along the way. We arrived in Arusha a little after midnight! Yes, it was a long day on the road, but at least we were on a nicer charter bus which usually don't oversell and pack people in the aisles. We took a taxi to a hostel we had found in the Lonely Planet guide. Luckily they had rooms and we went and took showers and crashed. Oh, and they had HOT SHOWERS! Probably one of the first since being in Tanzania! It was amazing! :)
